Russian Police Briefly Detain Opposition Leader Alexei Navalny — Again

A new study finds high levels of drugs in the Hudson River. Researchers say the study is a step toward understanding how pharmaceuticals are distributed in the river and whether the levels are high enough to affect aquatic life. The findings are based on samples taken from Troy to New York City, with the highest levels in between.

This story of a man who nearly died in the hospital actually started in the woods of Washington's Cascade Mountains last summer.

"I was cutting for a logging outfit up on these rock cliffs and I felled a 150-foot fir tree into [some] maple trees," says Kristopher Kelly, a 51-year-old lumberjack. The maples "had a bunch of dead tops — they call 'em widow makers," Kelly says. "You don't want to get under them because they'll make you a widow."

Another candidate has entered the race to unseat second-term Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik.  At noon in Saranac Lake, author, entrepreneur and former cable news host Dylan Ratigan formally announced his campaign. News of his interest in the seat was first reported by WAMC. He says he decided to run because he believes there is a huge opportunity to significantly improve the quality of leadership in the country and the representation in the district.
