Albany Mom Petitions HUD: Ban Police Training at Public Housing

An Albany resident has started a petition to ask the federal Housing and Urban Development Department to ban police training in public housing.

The power of social networking proved to be a force to reckon with after citizens in Albany's Arbor Hill neighborhood posted photographs of swat teams, fake bloodstains and shell casings on Facebook, after an Albany Police Department training exercise.

He Takes His Town Hall Online

A Rockland Man Allegedly Threatened NY Politicians

NEW CITY, N.Y. (AP) — Police have accused a Hudson Valley man of making death threats on Facebook against New York’s governor, New York City’s mayor, and several members of Congress. Police say they found two rifles, bayonets, ammunition. and body armor at the man’s Rockland County home. Clarkstown police say 49-year-old Lawrence Mulqueen of Nanuet was arraigned Thursday on charges of making terroristic threats, illegally possessing weapons, and harassment. Police were called Wednesday afternoon by Mulqueen's landlady, who said he'd been harassing her. They say she tipped them to Mulqueen's alleged threats, made on a Facebook page under a pseudonym. Police say the FBI helped with the investigation. A town court clerk says no lawyer is listed for Mulqueen in court records. Mulqueen is being held until a court date Monday.

Like Facebook, Apple Says It Was Attacked By Hackers

Apple said today that the computers of some of its employees were attacked by hackers, who used the same vulnerability to access computers at Facebook.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Facebook's mystery "press event" on Tuesday could reveal a more robust search feature that would intensify the competition between the social networking giant and its rival Google Inc.

Facebook is holding the event at 10 a.m. (1 p.m. EST) at its Menlo Park, Calif., headquarters. The company has not said what it plans to announce. Last week, it invited bloggers and journalists to "come see what we're building."

The company probably won't be showing off a new office building -unless it decided to make its invitation very literal.

David Nightingale : Internet Etiquette

The word 'etiquette' reminds me of vicarage ladies discussing which way their pinkies ought to point when holding a tea-cup, but I use the word here with respect to the problem of friends who don't, can't or won't, respond.

I don't email much, and typically my 'you have mail' box may have anything between zero and three new emails each morning. I know people who apparently receive as many as 80 a day, excluding advertising! (How such a phenomenon occurs I'm not sure. They must be very talkative.)
