NY rewards 4 districts for efficiency savings

On Tuesday Gov. Andrew Cuomo held the districts up as models for the rest of the state, while promising them $12 million in competitive grants over the next three years.

Rochester is the biggest winner, receiving $4.5 million for identifying $9.5 million in savings. Newburgh and Kenmore-Tonawanda will each get $3.6 million for finding nearly $6 million in savings and Queensbury is being awarded $561,000 for finding $624,000 in savings.

Massachusetts Program Supports Regionalization of Community Initiatives

Over $2 million in grant funding has been awarded by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to support a wide variety of community-based initiatives, from public safety to information technology.

The 2^nd round of the Community Innovation Challenge Grants were announced this week to support expansion and regionalization of a slew of community programs across the Bay State. Lieutenant Governor Timothy Murray says that the $2.25M round of funding is important for solidifying important programs, but will also save cities and towns money in the long-term.

$2 Million in Development Grants Okayed in Vermont

Governor Peter Shumlin is announcing nearly $2 million in Vermont Community Development Program grants.

Of the total, $600,000 will go toward renovation of a landmark building in the center of Morristown, the former Arthur's department store. Shumlin says that project will also create 18 units of affordable housing.

Other grants announced Friday include $325,000 to the Town of Brattleboro for a loan to Carbon Harvest, $500,000 to the Town of Ludlow and Housing Trust of Rutland County for infrastructure improvements to the Tuckerville Mobile Home Park.
