SUNY Plattsburgh students rallied Tuesday afternoon to express their concerns over slurs and derogatory remarks that were shouted at marchers during the Annual Take Back the Night event last weekend.

In today’s Academic Minute, Dr. Connie Shemo of the State University of New York, Plattsburgh, explains the connection between the women’s foreign mission movement of the early twentieth century and two pioneering female doctors.

Connie Shemo is an associate professor of history at the State University of New York, Plattsburgh. Her teaching and research interests include U.S. women's history, Chinese history, and the history of medicine. She holds a Ph.D. from SUNY Binghamton.

SUNY Plattsburgh Remembers 9-11 and Alumna Killed in Twin Tower Collapse

Students, faculty, and staff of the SUNY college here gathered at Hawkins Pond this afternoon, where a memorial to two alumna is placed. On September 11th, Robert Sutcliffe, class of 1984, and William Erwin, class of 1992, died in the collapse of the Twin Towers.

In front of the memorial, History Professor Doug Skopp remembers his late students.

Many of the students attending the college now were in elementary school when the Twin Towers were destroyed, including Student Association President Charles Sanchez.
