Kingston Voters Okay Sofie Finn STRIVE Proposition

KINGSTON – Voters overwhelmingly approved the sale of Sofie Finn Elementary School in Kingston to SUNY Ulster for $300,000. The school will be transformed into an urban satellite campus.

The proposition's unofficial tally was 2,784 for and 570 against.

Hein Continues To Push For Nevele Casino

KINGSTON – Despite Governor Cuomo’s announced gaming casino plan that would include one in the Catskills/Hudson Valley region, Ulster County Executive Michael Hein is pushing for more.

The EPT/Empire Resorts plan for the former Concord Hotel property in Kiamesha Lake appears to be the regional frontrunner, but Hein is continuing to lobby for the Nevele facility in the Ellenville area.

“We look forward to advocating for Ulster County and for the Nevele and also for our entire region,” Hein said.

Governor’s state budget includes $2 million to major extension of rail trail

KINGSTON – Governor Cuomo’s proposed state budget includes $2 million for the development of a rail trail from Kingston to the Ashokan Reservoir. The ultimate goal is to connect it to the Walkway Over the Hudson.

Ulster County Executive Michael Hein said they are working to create “a world class tourism destination” in the county. He said the project has “far reaching regional significance and will positively impact tourism, public health, economic development” and will allow residents and visitors from across the globe to enjoy the “pristine beauty” of Ulster County.
