President Barack Obama is warning Republican lawmakers against using delay tactics to sink gun control legislation.

Obama spoke last night about his gun proposals in Connecticut, where 20 children and 6 adults were killed in a horrific school shooting last year. The shooting spurred fresh debate in Washington over gun control measures.

The president is singling out GOP lawmakers who want to use procedural maneuvers to block legislation. Obama says the move would be akin to saying the public's opinion doesn't matter.

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A bipartisan legislative working group is offering two lists of recommendations for addressing gun violence: one from the majority Democrats and another from the Republican members.

While some of the Democrats' gun control proposals unveiled Tuesday go further than the Republicans' ideas, such as expanding the definition of an assault weapon under Connecticut's current assault weapons ban, there were some overlaps. Democrats also called for a ban on high-capacity ammunition magazines.

Vermont Lawmakers Propose Tightening Gun Laws

A group of Vermont lawmakers is pushing legislation that would ban large capacity ammunition-feeding devices on guns and would require background checks for people buying weapons at gun shows.

Representatives Linda Waite-Simpson, Adam Greshin and Mike Mrowicki are among those backing a bill that also would bring state law in line with federal law in prohibiting convicted felons from possessing firearms.
