This season they’ll present Eileen Ivers, Conjunto Chappottin y Sus Estrellas, James Cotton, Jeffrey Broussard and the Creole Cowboys, and Ghost Train Orchestra.</p><p>All their shows are scheduled to take place in Schenectady's Central Park on the Agnes MacDonald Music Haven Stage – with a rain-site at Proctors in case of inclement weather.</p><p>Eileen Ivers has been called “The Jimi Hendrix of the violin” and will perform this coming Sunday with special guest, Annalivia.</p><p>Music Haven will further celebrate 25 years with a “Blues Sunday” gala dinner in advance of their July 27th concert featuring James Cotton.</p><p>Mona Golub is the Music Haven Concert Series producing artistic director and she joins us to tell us more.</p><p> Tue, 08 Jul 2014 14:10:00 +0000 Sarah LaDuke 94329 at http://wamc.org Music Haven Concert Series Celebrates 25 Years "Canals And Railroads: Collaboration To Competition" At The Schenectady County Historical Society http://wamc.org/post/canals-and-railroads-collaboration-competition-schenectady-county-historical-society <p><span style="line-height: 1.5;">&nbsp;&nbsp;</span><a href="http://www.schenectadyhistorical.org/">The Schenectady County Historical Society</a> was founded in 1905 to preserve the history of the area. The Society’s museum and local history and genealogy research library have been located at 32 Washington Avenue in the Stockade neighborhood in Schenectady since 1958.</p><p>They are opening a new exhibition this weekend entitled "Canals and Railroads: Collaboration to Competition." The exhibit explores the beginnings of the Canal Era and New York State’s early railroads which were built to enhance and complement–rather than compete with– the waterway system.</p><p>It is a traveling exhibit, put together by <a href="http://www.ahts.org/">Alco Historical and Technical Society</a> historian, Dave Gould and Alco Historical and Technical Society designer, John Kolwaite. In addition, specific adaptations, inventions and rigging points created for the original Phantom are used by many of the other touring shows that reach Proctors each season.</p><p>Just before the expansion, Proctors was a single theatre, hosting approximately 60 to 70 performances a year. By 2009, it was offering over 600 events a year in three theatres and drawing over 500,000 people to downtown Schenectady.
