On Thursday, the Berkshire County Kids’ Place & Violence Prevention Center is holding its 2^nd annual child abuse prevention conference. Christa Collier, Director of Kids’ Place, said the event is intended to raise awareness of child abuse among Berkshire County adults.

A coalition of community organizations in Berkshire County are joining together to create a united front against child abuse. WAMC’s Berkshire Bureau Chief Lucas Willard reports…

According to most recent statistics from the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families, over 77,000 reports of child abuse were reported annually in the Commonwealth. In those same statistics, Pittsfield, and North Adams were rated as communities with a higher occurrence of abuse.

Berkshire County Child Advocacy Center Recieves Federal Aid

Berkshire County Kid’s Place received $23,000 in federal funding to find ways to better serve children and families in their local area. Under the National Children’s Alliance in agreement with the US Department of Justice Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, almost $10 million was distributed to 91 abuse prevention organizations across the country.
