WAMC&rsquo;s Dave Lucas reports<strong>&hellip;</strong></p><p>The civil rights suit was filed Monday in a Manhattan federal court. It says police conduct is so problematic that the force needs an outside monitor.</p><p>The city Law Department had no immediate comment Monday. Mayor Michael Bloomberg has defended police handling of the protests.</p><p>Occupy demonstrators have gone to court before over particular episodes. The new lawsuit is a compendium of complaints.</p> Tue, 01 May 2012 11:59:44 +0000 Dave Lucas 37985 at http://wamc.org NYC Officials Sue Police over Response to Protests NYPD: Powder Mailed to Bank Branches Non-Toxic http://wamc.org/post/nypd-powder-mailed-bank-branches-non-toxic <p>Police say the white powder contained in several envelopes that were mailed to various bank branches in New York City turned out to be non-toxic.</p><p>Police say seven envelopes were sent Monday to several Wells Fargo branches, a JP Morgan Chase branch and an office building. Telephone calls to Wells Fargo and JP Morgan Chase were not immediately returned.</p><p>Police say the suspicious envelopes caused evacuations of several bank branches, but no injuries were reported.
