NY AG issues tips for gas leases

Albany, NY – The New York State Attorney General's office has issued eight tips for minimizing the risk of signing a natural gas lease. Property owners in Sullivan County are now being offered land leases on their property by drilling companies. WAMC's Hank Gross has more.

Shootout still under investigation

Poughkeepsie, NY – Police continue to investigate a shootout on a Poughkeepsie, NY city street late Friday night that left one man dead and two wounded. Police said Davell Melton of Poughkeepsie was shot and died at a hospital after being struck by gunfire while near Cannon and Academy streets at 11 p.m. WAMC's Hank Gross has more.

Application to build a power line filed

The high school dropout crisis is a familiar them on this program. Now, comes this report from California. A new statewide count of high school dropouts, based on the tracking of individual students, shows significantly higher numbers than had earlier been reported. The California Department of Education says fully one in four high school students fail to graduate with their class. That nearly doubles the previous dropout rate from last year.
