Nuclear Advisory Panel Puts off Decision on Whether to Support Vermont Yankee Power Boost

Montpelier, VT – The Vermont State Nuclear Advisory Panel has put off a decision on whether to support Vermont Yankee's bid to boost its power output by twenty percent. During a heated meeting yesterday, the seven-member panel delayed a decision on what advice it wants to offer the Vermont Public Service Board. WAMC's North County Bureau Chief Pat Bradley has more.

Western Mass electric crews head south to help out

Springfield, MA – At least three and a half million people in Florida are still without power four days after Hurricane Wilma. Crews from Western Massachusetts Electric Company in Springfield headed south early this morning to help restore it.

W-A-M-C's Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Jessica Bloustein saw them off.

Emergency Response Center in Line For Renovation

Hyde Park, NY – Officials in Dutchess County New York have unveiled a three-phase, multi-million dollar plan to upgrade the county's emergency response complex and training facilities for firefighters and police.

Springfield teachers boycott region businesses

Springfield, MA – Wednesday's negotiations between the Springfield, Massachusetts, teachers union and the city's finance control board did not result in the long-awaited contract. The union is now urging its members to boycott several of the region's businesses.

Study Will Determine Feasibility of Biomass For Electric Generation in Adirondack Village

Tupper Lake, NY – For several years, officials from the Adirondack village of Tupper Lake have been working with the New York Power Authority and Niagara Mohawk, now known as National Grid, on ways to improve their power infrastructure. This week, the New York Power Authority announced that the feasibility of biomass electric generation in the Adirondacks will be studied. WAMC's North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley has more.
