IP Test Tire Burn Informational Meeting and Protest Rally Planned Tonight

Middlebury, VT – Vermont's Agency of Natural Resources will host an informational session this evening in Middlebury on a proposal by International Paper to burn fuel made from tires at its mill in Ticonderoga, New York. Opponents of the plan will hold a rally before the 7 p.m. meeting begins.

Adirondack Land Reclassification May Allow Motorized Access

Ray Brook, NY – The Adirondack Park Agency is proposing the reclassification of about 32-thousand acres of public land in the Adirondacks to allow some snowmobile and a-t-v use. The Adirondack Council is opposed to parts of the plan, saying a-t-v's have already damaged sensitive areas. But proponents say motorized access is critical for the economy of many small towns.

New York Parole Officers Call On Executive Director Ellis To Resign

Albany, NY – Members of the New York State Public Employees Federation at the State Division of Parole held a press conference in Albany Wednesday, demanding that Executive Director Anthony Ellis resign due to management policies, they say, that endanger public safety. Environmental Groups Pressure EPA to Better Inspect New York Factory Farms

Albany, NY – Environmental groups issued a report Wednesday calling for tighter regulations of New York's Factory Farms and their policies regarding cow manure disposal. This comes in light of a recent 3-million-gallon liquid manure spill into Jefferson County's Black River that killed 100,000 fish and threatened local drinking water. Center for Constitutional Rights Appeals Case Against MCI and NY DOCS

Albany, NY – The Center for Constitutional Rights filed an appeal in their case against The New York State Department of Correctional Services and MCI on Tuesday. The suit seeks an order prohibiting New York State and MCI from charging prison family members mark-up rates in order to receive a call from an incarcerated loved one. Official Resigns Over Pornographic Images

Ray Brook, NY – Officials at the Adirondack Park Agency say Executive Director Daniel Fitts submitted his resignation today and it was accepted by the agency's board. Fitts resigned after being accused of using his office computer to download images of nude women.
