Jewish Pop Culture Trend Growing

New York City, NY – A new generation of young Jewish-Americans is looking for products, activities and organizations that reflect their cultural tastes while embracing pop culture. That growing trend is bringing Jewish-themed products to Jewish youth, by young Jewish entrepreneurs. WAMC's North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley has more.

Towns Block Conservation Easement Deal

Hopkinton, NY – In April 2004, New York Governor George Pataki and International Paper announced an agreement that would allow public use of 257-thousand acres of Adirondack forest land thru conservation easements. But the deal has been stalled by four Adirondack towns over the issue of snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles and a bridge that would link the trails.

Jury Recommends Death Penalty in Vermont Murder Case

Burlington, VT – It took roughly ten hours of deliberations over two days for a Vermont jury to recommend that Donald Fell should be put to death for kidnaping and killing Vermonter Terry King in New York State five years ago. The sentence was handed down just before noon Thursday in Vermont's first capital punishment trial in nearly a half-century.

Hotel Named for Waterfront Development Project

Plattsburgh, NY – Plattsburgh officials have named the company that will operate the hotel and conference center that is the focus of the city's major Lake Champlain waterfront development project. The announcement moves the multi-million dollar re-development closer to a planned fall groundbreaking.

Border Watchers Praise Schumer Proposal

Plattsburgh, NY – Several months ago, the Department of Homeland Security announced plans that would require anyone crossing the U-S border to have a passport or secure document. But business, tourism and trade officials along the U-S/Canadian border raised concerns about the potential impact of such a plan. This week, New York Senator Charles Schumer introduced federal legislation that would mandate more affordable and accessible requirements.

Major employer announces job cuts

Milton, VT – Husky Injection Molding Systems Limited will close the smaller of two plants that it operates in Milton, Vermont. Sixty-nine jobs will be cut or moved to Canada, where the company is based.
