Pittsfield, MA – Massachusetts Senator John Kerry visited the Berkshires today to tout a plan that would infuse a million dollars a year for preservation of historic places in the region -- and also took the opportunity to blast the fiscal policy of President Bush.

Albany, NY – The New York State Conference of Italian-American legislators is headed in a new direction. After years of focusing on cultural links with Italy, the legislators will start down a path of realizing economic opportunities. Burlington, VT – In 2003, the Vermont Legislature added clergy to the list of people required by law to report suspected incidences of child abuse and neglect. The Vermont Department for Children and Families is currently holding training sessions so that clergy can learn about reporting requirements and discuss any challenges they face when reporting suspected abuse.

Saugerties, NY – It's been about one year since the head of one of the nation's largest horse show circuits held a grand opening for the shows' permanent summer residence. The site is in the Hudson Valley's Ulster County, and officials had predicted a boon for the local economy to the tune of millions of dollars. WAMC's Hudson Valley Bureau Chief Allison Dunne follows up on that prediction, along with what a national show jumping event new to the site this year holds in store.

Great Barrington, MA – A Great Barrington group has joined a state-wide organization to push for more lenient sentences for several youngsters who could spend two years in jail for dealing small amounts of marijuana.

Holyoke, MA – State education officials have recommended that the city of Holyoke, Massachusetts hire an outside firm to help improve its struggling school district.
