Local Mobilization Begins for "Millions More Movement"

Albany, NY – October 16th of this year marks the 10 year anniversary of "The Million Man March" in Washington DC. Millions more African American men, women and families will be returning our nations capital this October in order to commemorate the 1995 march & recommit themselves to a more productive way of life. African American community leaders in Albany have kicked-off their mobilization efforts, in order to encourage local citizens to participate in the upcoming event. Mountain's Name Celebrates Civil Rights Worker

Tupper Lake, NY – Some residents in an Adirondack community are remembering a special bond with a young civil rights worker whose killer was convicted Tuesday, 41 years to the day, after he and two of his friends disappeared. In Tupper Lake, a mountain is named after slain civil rights activist Andrew Goodman.

Nurses File Suit Against North Adams Hospital

North Adams, MA – A hospital in Berkshire County is being sued in federal court by its nurses over allegations of inadequate nurse-to-patient ratios -- but hospital officials accuse the plaintiffs of playing politics. -John Krol

Reaction from Education Community to Higher Passing Grade on Regents Exams.

Albany, NY – New York State education officials are making a change in the threshold for a passing grade on the high school Regents exam. The Board of Regents on Tuesday ordered that a 65 percent passing grade for the exams be phased in over the next four years, beginning this the fall. WAMC's North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley has reaction to the new mandate.

Albany DA Launches Public Integrity Unit

Colonial Theatre Project Under Budget

Pittsfield, MA – While the revelation of a relationship between the Executive Director of the Colonial Theater Renovation effort and the president of the board Howell Palmer has led to the resignation of Palmer, both from the Colonial Theater board and from his position at Berkshire Life - the Colonial director says the project is currently proceeding under budget.

Enviros to EPA: No More PCB Cleanup Delays

Hudson Falls, NY – Environmentalists are urging EPA officials to steer clear of any further delays in cleaning up P-C-Bs from the Hudson River. An EPA spokesman says though the start date for the cleanup is not certain, an agreement with General Electric to pick up the tab for the cleanup is expected soon. WAMC's Allison Dunne has more.
