MA State Colleges Fight for Funds

Northampton, MA – The President of Westfield State College in Massachusetts tells WAMC her institution is facing rough financial times. She wants the state to provide the college with more funding. WAMC's Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Eesha Williams has more.

SUNY Chancellor to Resign

Albany, NY – State University of New York Chancellor Robert King plans to resign. The Chancellor has sent a memo to his staff saying he intends to leave in June. WAMC's North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley has reaction to the announcement.

Adams Candidates Calls For Town to Sue the State Over Greylock Glen

Adams, MA – A candidate for a selectmen position in the town of Adams, Massachusetts wants to sue the state over it's failure to create economic development at the Greylock Glen. But, others say the state is working with town on a new 50 million dollar plan that will be a boost for the local economy. WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief John Krol has the story.

Illegal Immigrants Fund Social Security

Northampton, MA – Experts say many farms, restaurants, and other businesses in our region employ illegal immigrants. The New York Times reports today, that nationally, illegal immigrants pay billions of dollars a year in social security taxes. But most of the immigrants never see a dime in benefits. Govt. Fines HV Woman For Travel to Iraq

Kerhonkson, NY – The U.S. government has imposed a fine on a Hudson Valley woman, saying she violated the Iraqi Sanctions Program. The woman had traveled to Iraq as a human shield in 2003, and did so knowing she could face penalties. She says she is taking issue with the government's legal basis that prohibited her travel in the first place. WAMC's Hudson Valley Bureau Chief Allison Dunne reports.
