Olive Residents Protest in Kingston

Kingston, NY – Dozens of residents from Ulster County town were out in protest earlier today over county and school tax hikes they say are destroying their lives. The tax increases come from a so-called large-parcel law that took effect this year. The protesters gathered outside a breakfast meeting in Kingston, which was attended by some of the legislators who backed the law. WAMC's Hudson Valley Bureau Chief Allison Dunne was at the protest.

Feds Step in for Cape Wind, But Not on Berkshire Project

Florida, MA – The federal Environmental Protection Agency has gotten involved in the controversial Cape Wind Project off the coast of Massachusetts, which could delay -- or completely derail the project. And this move, opponents a wind project in Berkshire County wondering why the EPA's not stepping in for their cause. WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief John Krol has the story.

MA Legislators Want More Time Off for Workers

Northampton, MA – People in the United States now work more hours per year than citizens of any other industrial nation. Lawmakers from Massachusetts are sponsoring bills in Congress and the state legislature to give workers more time off. WAMC's Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Eesha Williams has more.

Dissolving Border Concept Viable or Imprudent?

Plattsburgh, NY – The president of a Canadian think tank says its time to dissolve the border between eastern Canada and the northeastern U-S to create a new super trade corridor.
But some find it an entertaining concept that's unrealistic and unlikely to ever come to fruition. WAMC's North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley has more.

Bill Would Require Hospital-Related Infections Reporting

Albany, NY – A bi-partisan effort is underway to require hospitals in New York State to report cases in which patients acquire hospital-related infections. The two lawmakers behind the bill will introduce the measure next week. Those speaking for hospitals in the state say the idea is a good one, but there are inherent problems in the bill. Regional Advocates React to National Prescription Price Poll

Plattsburgh, NY – A new poll says nearly two-thirds of Americans who were surveyed want the government to play a larger role in controlling prescription drug prices. More than half want more regulation of drug advertising. Advocates working towards lower drug prices in our region aren't surprised by the poll's results.
