EPA, GE Give Details on Capping Lake for PCBs

Pittsfield, MA – At a meeting last night in Berkshire County, representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency and General Electric presented details about how they will clean a polluted lake and prevent PCBs from seeping back into the water. Lawyers Say Innocent People Jailed

Springfield, MA – Groups representing hundreds of Massachusetts lawyers this week asked the state's highest court to stop forcing lawyers to represent poor people who are facing jail time. Coalition to Push for NY Emissions Reduction

Albany, NY – A trio of environmental groups that has been calling on the Pataki administration to reduce emissions from coal-fired power plants in New York has enlisted more than 120 groups to help push for action in state government to get lower emissions standards implemented. New England Polluter List Includes NY Cement Co.

Hudson, NY – An awards list is out that spotlights twelve of New England's top polluters. For the first time, there are recipients based in New York. And one of the companies is St. Lawrence Cement. The environmental group behind the list will now join forces with New York-based plant opponents in their quest to prevent the plant from becoming a reality. WAMC's Allison Dunne reports.

Panel Says NY Needs $14 Billion More in School Spending

Kentucky to Sue Prison Company Over Riot

Northampton, MA – The state of Kentucky last week said it will fine the company that runs a prison where a riot took place two months ago $10,000. Most of the prisoners who were involved in the uprising at the Kentucky facility are from Vermont. WAMC's Eesha Williams reports.
