Alan Chartock

President and CEO

Dr. Alan Chartock is professor emeritus at the University at Albany. He hosts the weekly Capitol Connection series, heard on public radio stations around New York. The program for almost twelve years, higlighted interviews with Governor Mario Cuomo and now continues with conversations with state political leaders. Dr. Chartock also appears each week on The Media Project and the Roundtable and offers commentary on Morning Edition, weekdays at 7:37 am.

During his long tenure at WAMC/Northeast Public Radio, Alan Chartock has interviewed interesting people of every stripe. From Governors, Senators and top lawmakers, to newsmakers including World War II heroes and former UN weapons inspectors. Dr. Chartock has also had the chance for in-depth chats with artists, musicians, actors and directors...authors...you name it!

SPAC - David Kim

      Violinist David Kim was named Concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra in 1999. Born in Carbondale, Illinois in 1963, he started playing the violin at the age of three, began studies with the famed pedagogue Dorothy DeLay at the age of eight, and later received his bachelor's and master's degrees from The Juilliard School.

David Kim will, of course, perform with The Philadelphia Orchestra here at SPAC AND will participate in the SPAC Chamber Music Festival this Sunday. He will present, as part of a quintet, a program entitled “Night In Day” which will feature pieces by Stravinsky, Mozart, and Brahms.

Heather Fisch Set For Mahaiwe Show

Heather Fisch La Belle Epoque

Next Saturday night at the Mahaiwe, writer-director Heather Fisch presents La Belle Epoque, a live theater show about three vaudeville performers from the 1920s. Part slapstick, part jazz, part dance, the show is back in Great Barrington where it originally began. Tanglewood - Shakespeare & Company - Mother Courage

    Considered by many to be one of the greatest plays of the 20th Century, Bertolt Brecht’s Mother Courage and Her Children is set against the backdrop of the Thirty Years War and follows the fate of Mother Courage, an artful canteen woman with the Swedish Army, intent on keeping her business and family alive amid the destruction of war.

Mother Courage and Her Children still resonates today as a profound insight into the moral implications of war. The show is running in the Tina Packer Playhouse as part of Shakespeare and Company’s season through August 25th.

The production is directed by Shakespeare and Company’s Artistic Director, Tony Simotes and features Olympia Dukakis, Apollo Dukakis, and John Douglas Thompson.

Tanglewood - Stéphane Denève

    Recognized internationally as a conductor of the highest caliber, Stéphane Denève has won praise from audiences and critics alike for his performances and programming. With the Royal Scottish National Orchestra he has performed at the BBC Proms, Edinburgh International Festival, and at many other celebrated venues throughout Europe.

Denève enjoys close relationships with many of the world’s leading solo artists and is also a conductor of opera – having worked at the Royal Opera House, La Scala, Netherlands Opera, Cincinnati Opera and with many other phenomenal companies around the world.

He's conducting the BSO at Tanglewood tonight in a program featuring Strauss, Beethoven and Poulenc with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus.
