Alan Chartock

President and CEO

Dr. Alan Chartock is professor emeritus at the University at Albany. He hosts the weekly Capitol Connection series, heard on public radio stations around New York. The program for almost twelve years, higlighted interviews with Governor Mario Cuomo and now continues with conversations with state political leaders. Dr. Chartock also appears each week on The Media Project and the Roundtable and offers commentary on Morning Edition, weekdays at 7:37 am.

During his long tenure at WAMC/Northeast Public Radio, Alan Chartock has interviewed interesting people of every stripe. From Governors, Senators and top lawmakers, to newsmakers including World War II heroes and former UN weapons inspectors. Dr. Chartock has also had the chance for in-depth chats with artists, musicians, actors and directors...authors...you name it!

Dr. Nancy Campbell

Host Alan Chartock is joined by Nancy D. Campbell, Professor in the Department of Science and Technology Studies and Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  Campbell, who earned a PhD in the History of Consciousness program at UC Santa Cruz, did her master’s in English at the University of Washington and a bachelor’s in English at Bucknell. She has researched and published on topics such as drug addiction, bioethics, public health and drug policy, and feminist and postcolonial science and technology studies.

Senate candidate Long urges fracking

U.S. Senate candidate Wendy Long, the Republican challenging incumbent New York Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand, says the controversial gas drilling process called hydrofracking — currently being studied by the state — is safe. Long told WAMC’s Alan Chartock on the Capitol Connection program this week that the economic benefits of fracking are too great not to go forward with drilling.

Aaron Lansky

Alan is joined by Aaron Lansky, president and founder of the Yiddish Book Center, which is based in Amherst, Massachusetts.  While a graduate student of Yiddish literature in 1980, Lansky founded the Yiddish Book Center, a non-profit that works to rescue, translate and disseminate Yiddish books. A graduate of Hampshire College, Lansky received a MacArthur Award in 1989. He is the author of Outwitting History about the founding of the Yiddish Book Center.
