ACLU Calls on VT Legislature to Limit Electronic Surveillance

The American Civil Liberties Union of Vermont says electronic surveillance techniques are increasingly accessible to state and local law enforcement agencies and private businesses.  The group has issued a report detailing the types of surveillance most commonly seen in Vermont and is calling on the state legislature to control how it’s used.

Burlington Mayor Discusses Racism Initiative and Other Issues

Last week, Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger joined a U.S. Conference of Mayors’ initiative against racism and discrimination. It was announced to coincide with commemorations of the 50th anniversary of the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Weinberger tells WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley that implementing the 10-point plan of action against racism is an appropriate way to commemorate the tragedy.
