Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin is expressing disagreement with a major court decision blocking the state's efforts to close the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant.
Governor Shumlin, who is on vacation, issued a statement that says while Wednesday's decision from the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York blocks the Legislature's efforts to close the plant it does not halt review of the Vernon reactor's operations by the state Public Service Board. Vermont Public Service Department Deputy Commissioner Darren Springer says it is a key element in the decision.
The Washington Electric Cooperative, a small utility in Vermont, has announced that it will set limits on net metering systems. That has raised concerns from advocacy groups who say such a move could discourage development of solar installations.
