PG Jason KIdd to Join the Knicks

Well the Knicks have added a Kidd to their backcourt – but they haven’t gotten any younger…

ESPN reports this morning that veteran point guard Jason Kidd has decided to leave the Mavericks and join the Knicks to the tune of roughly $9 million dollars over three years.  This move comes as Houston and restricted free agent point guard Jeremy Lin have reportedly come to terms on a four year, $29 million dollar deal - the Knicks have three days to match the Rockets’ offer.

VT Seeks Immunity from Workers' Overtime Lawsuit

A federal judge has ruled that Vermont can try to assert it is immune from a lawsuit brought by more than 700 state employees.  WAMC’s Tristan O’Neill reports…

The employees, ranging from social workers to foresters, sued in 2010, saying the state was paying their regular hourly rate when they worked more than 40 hours a week, when it should have been paying time-and-a-half.

VT Yankee Nuke Plant at Full Power after Repairs

The Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant is producing electricity at full power again after technicians completed repairs to one of two motor generators that vary the flow of cooling water to the reactor.  WAMC’s Tristan O’Neill reports…

Plant spokesman Rob Williams says the problem, discovered was caused by faulty electrical connections in the unit, which is about half the size of a bus.

On June 18, the plant's output was reduced to 38 percent after smoke was detected in the reactor building. The smoke was traced to the motor generator, which was shut down.

Sanders Questions High Gas Prices in Burlington

Vermont U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders is asking if northwestern Vermont residents are getting ripped off at the gas pump.  WAMC’s Tristan O’Neill reports… 

The left-leaning independent is calling for a federal investigation of the fact that gas prices are higher in Chittenden, Franklin and Grand Isle counties than elsewhere in Vermont or New England.

Sanders says Vermont's gas prices tend to run higher than New Hampshire's. On Monday, regular unleaded averaged $3.55 a gallon in Vermont, versus $3.36 in New Hampshire.

Feds Probe Downtown Forklift Crash in Springfield

Federal safety and health officials are investigating how a forklift plunged through a Springfield sidewalk into a cellar.  WAMC’s Tristan O’Neill reports…

The Republican reported that the forklift operator, who was not identified, was hospitalized with minor injuries following the incident on Tuesday.

Fire Commissioner Joseph Contant said the operator was a MassMutual Center employee who had been moving large planters for the Springfield Business Improvement District.

Lakers Land PG Nash, Rockets Make Offer to Knicks' Lin

Well one NBA club celebrated our nation’s independence by bringing a Canadian to town…

The Lakers have acquired point guard Steve Nash in a sign-and-trade deal with the Suns, who receive four draft picks in return: first rounders in 2013 and 2015, and second rounders in 2013 and 2014. Nash agreed to a three-year deal worth $27 million dollars.

To replace Nash, the Suns have re-acquired point guard Goran Dragic to the tune of $34 million dollars over four years.

NY Court Allows Espaillat to Withdraw Petition

Lawyers for NYS Senator Adriano Espaillat have temporarily withdrawn their petition in their fight over his race to unseat U.S. Representative Charles Rangel.  WAMC’s Tristan O’Neill reports…

The lawyers got permission from a state Supreme Court justice Monday to withdraw their petition so they can refile later this week using broader legal arguments.

Espaillat spokesman Ibrahim Khan says the move lets them keep their legal options open while they fight for transparency. He says the campaign could now push for a new vote to be held.

Source: Nets Land Hawks' Johnson, Pursue PG Williams

Well according league sources, the Nets have made a major move – and the deal does not include the names Dwight or Howard. 

The Hawks and Nets have reportedly agreed to a trade that would send All-Star guard Joe Johnson to Brooklyn. Johnson has four years and $90 million left on his contract.  The Hawks will receive five players and a draft pick from the Nets, who are also trying to re-sign free agent point guard Deron Williams.

CT Officials to Discuss Mosquito Management

The state of Connecticut's mosquito management team is unveiling plans for combating the pesky, and potentially harmful, insects.  WAMC’s Tristan O’Neill reports…

Representatives from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection are scheduled to discuss mosquito management strategies for the summer season during a news conference, planned for Thursday morning at Bushnell Park in Hartford, across from DEEP's headquarters. The latest techniques, strategies and equipment being used to control mosquitoes will be displayed.

Yankees' Sabathia, Pettitte Placed on DL

Well the Yankees starting rotation has taken a major hit…

Hours after the Yankees placed C.C. Sabathia on the DL with a strained groin, Andy Pettitte was hit by a line drive back through the box, breaking his left fibula right near the ankle.  Robinson Cano supplied a go-ahead, two-run shot to prevent the day from being a total loss, as the Yankees edged Cleveland 5-4.

In Boston, David Ortiz smacked his 399th career home run to help power the Red Sox, who scored six first-inning runs, to a 10-4 rout of Toronto.
