Albany, NY – It's hard to imagine that cancer could be a gift. But we've all heard the stories of people who finally started living when they were told they might die. Kris Carr is one of those people...and a diagnosis of cancer turned her life into a one-woman crusade to get people to wake up and start living.

Carr 6:36

Carr organizes online groups, in-person seminars and more stuff than I could list here.

Azerbaijan is an anomaly...located partly in Eastern Europe, partly in Western Asia, and bounded on one side by Iran. Since declaring independence after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, it's battled to hang on to its territory. Wealthy in gas and oil, it is water poor. And it's people walk a tightrope between east and west. 51%'s Glenn Busby speaks with a woman who, thanks to a Fulbright scholarship, discovered that the women of Azerbaijan are experts at doing it all.

Jennifer Wistrand 9:04

As part of our National Science Foundation, "The Sounds of Progress" series, narrator Kate Mulgrew introduces us to Mary Kies...one of the original designing women.

Finally today, a story of courage, endurance and grace. Kerri Gruson is a writer who lives in Florida. When she was a young reporter for the New York Times, she was attacked and left for dead by a troubled Vietnam Vet. She had severe trauma to her neck. She's been confined to a wheelchair and her speech can be difficult to understand. But Kerri Gruson told me she considers herself a lucky person. She not only sails (faster than anyone else, she tells me), but she goes scuba diving.

Gruson 3:28

Kerri Gruson teaches sailing...and won a trophy this year. And she's an avid scuba diver.
