Alan Chartock Remembers Legendary Newsman Don Decker
Speaking with David Guistina, Dr. Alan Chartock shares his thoughts and memories of legendary local newsman Don Decker who passed away this week. From WRGB, where Decker was a longtime Anchor, Producer, and News Director:
Decker spent nearly 50 years in the local news business, first as a radio reporter for WGY Radio, then as a news anchor for WRGB-TV. He then moved behind the scenes, becoming an assignment editor and producer. Decker rose to News Director at WRGB in 1968. He helped shape local news, launched the region's first hour-long evening newscast and mentored many of those who spent time on local airwaves.
Decker grew up in Amsterdam and lived most of his adult life in Rotterdam. He retired from the news business in 1998
