The Albany County District Attorney's Office says it's conducting an independent investigation of the death of a man who died in police custody after officers subdued him with a stun gun.

Prosecutor David Soares released a brief statement Tuesday announcing the investigation into the death of 39-year-old Albany resident Donald Ivy Jr. last Thursday.

Albany police said officers started talking to Ivy at 12:36 a.m. Thursday on a street near his home. Police say Ivy became aggressive, and officers used a stun gun on him. Ivy ran off but was soon caught. He suffered a medical emergency and lost consciousness, then died later at a hospital.

The three officers involved are on paid administrative leave while the police department reviews the case.
