Backyard Chickens On Hold In Hudson
If you live in Hudson, scratch those chicken plans... for now...
Many city residents thought it was a done deal - they'd be able to raise chickens in their backyards... but the Register Star reports the new law recently passed by the common council was vetoed by Mayor William Hallenbeck. The mayor expressed concerns about noise, odor and disease; the mayor also found the measure to be "elitist" in that it would preclude people living in subsidized housing from raising chickens. Hallenbeck says he needs more clarification on other aspects of the law as well: he has scheduled a public hearing for 4 p.m. June 28 at City Hall.
