Albany, NY – The New York State Comptroller hosted an informal "breakfast with the press" Monday morning at his Downtown Albany Office. Capital District Bureau Chief Dave Lucas attended and files this report.
Thomas DiNapoli sat down with members of the media over bagels and coffeeto discuss New York's fiscal outlook. For almost an hour, DiNapoli fielded questions about the budget, the Pension System, NYRA, Aqueduct and those "lost" pension checks. The Comptroller noted he is being "realistic" when it comes to the budget process.
When asked about running for election, DiNapoli says he'll do so "on his record" he says he's focused on the Comptroller race but the democrat also empathizes with other political appointees, like Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. DiNapoli exclaimed that he gets concerned about missed opportunities in terms of making decisions that put New York on a more secure path long term. DiNapoli says while there are big challenges out there they can be solved if government works together with the people. He emphasizes that the challenge of the budget and the fiscal situation is real, and it is not short term.
