Bus Drivers, Company Reach Agreement On 5-Year Contract

Pat Bradley/WAMC

Chittenden County bus drivers and the Green Mountain Transit Board of Commissioners have reached a new collective bargaining agreement, with a new, five-year contract starting July 1.
Union negotiations began on March 22 between Teamsters Local 597 and the management team at Green Mountain Transit, formerly known as the Chittenden County Transportation Authority.

The contract gives drivers a 14 percent pay increase spread over five years.

In 2014, drivers for the former CCTA staged an 18-day strike, the first in the organization's 40-year history. The strike forced almost 10,000 people a day in Chittenden County to find other ways to get to school and work.
