Capital Region Religious Leaders In Court

Two Capital Region religious leaders were in court this week for sex abuse and child endangerment charges.

Albany County District Attorney David Soares announced yesterday that Angel Garcia, 61, of Albany’s Church of the Holy Family, was found guilty after a jury trial of two counts of sexual abuse in the first degree. The former Deacon faces seven years in state prison on each count when sentenced on September 17th.

On Wednesday, Niskayuna priest James Michael Taylor, who carried on a seven-month relationship with a  15-year-old girl, admitted he endangered the minor. The Times Union reports Taylor is not expected to receive jail time when he is sentenced on October 8th. Taylor was an associate pastor at the St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish in Niskayuna.
