Police officials say Burlington officers did not discharge their weapons during a fatal drug bust that ended with the shooting death of the 56-year-old suspect, but they did take part in the raid.
Chief Brandon del Pozo told the Burlington Police Commission on Tuesday that the city's officers were part of a team of law enforcement agents who raided the home of Kenneth Stephens on Dec. 22, 2015.
An investigation found that Stephens was killed by shots fired by a Drug Enforcement Administration agent and a state trooper. Stephens had a loaded muzzleloader, but did not fire it.
Del Pozo said the DEA wrote the plan for the raid and Burlington officers assisted.
The Chittenden County State's Attorney's Office will release more information on their investigation of the shooting on Thursday.
