Chris Porco film to air Saturday
The Times Union reports that on Thursday an appellate judge refused to sustain a restraining order that would have disallowed Lifetime Network from airing a film about convicted killer Christopher Porco. Consequently, “Romeo Killer: The Chris Porco Story,” will be aired this Saturday at 8 p.m.
Porco made his arguments from a telephone call in prison. At the emergency hearing he claimed the film is not factual and that a lower court judge was right to issue a temporary restraining order.
Although the film is a dramatized account of real events, attorneys for Lifetime say the movie is based on trial transcripts, interviews and other information from the case.
Porco is serving up to life in prison for murdering his father and attempting to murder his mother in November, 2004 with an axe. The trial was heavily publicized and Porco maintains his innocence to this day.
“The issue is not whether or not the events surrounding my life are newsworthy or not, they clearly are, the issue is how is it then treated and portrayed by Lifetime,” said Porco.
