A survey last month by a Washington, D.C.-based polling group found Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker enjoyed the highest approval rating of any sitting governor in the country. But, one former leader of the commonwealth isn’t giving the first-term Republican such high marks.Michael Dukakis is the longest-serving governor in Massachusetts history and was the Democratic nominee for President in 1988, losing to Republican George H.W. Bush. Speaking in North Adams Saturday, Dukakis says there are a ton of problems in Massachusetts including the MBTA.
“I think he’s first trying to get the place squared away, although quite frankly, despite a lot of talk at the beginning of the administration, Deval Patrick left him with a state in pretty darn good shape,” said Dukakis.
Dukakis added that Governor Baker is a good guy and hopes he does well. The Morning Consult poll found 74 percent of Massachusetts voters approve of the job Baker is doing.
