Developers of a proposed 330-mile transmission line to bring lower-cost Canadian hydroelectric power to New York City say they have secured all the needed state and federal siting permits.
Transmission Developers Inc. said Tuesday the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issued a permit allowing the Champlain Hudson Power Express project to be placed in U.S. waters along the proposed route.
The 1,000-megawatt transmission line from Quebec to Queens would run under Lake Champlain and the Hudson River for much of its route. The line also would follow railroad rights-of-way.
TDI chief executive officer Donald Jessome says they are securing financing and will need approvals for things like a converter station in Queens. They hope to start construction early next year.
