The drought has prompted a municipal water system in the southern Vermont town of Dorset to shut off its water supply at night until further notice.
Customers have been notified that due to the continued lack of rain water, the system's reservoir has fallen to dangerously low levels. The system's operators said Tuesday that it's now necessary to turn off the water supply between midnight and 6 a.m. each night to allow the springs to keep up with daily water use.
Vermont Public Radio reports that the nightly shut-offs will continue until the reservoir's water level returns to a safe level.
The 200 customers also have been told to boil water that is used for drinking, ice making, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation for at least one minute.
