A top official for a company that won a provisional license to operate a medical marijuana dispensary in western Massachusetts has stepped down after allegations he lied about having a college degree.
Kevin Fisher resigned over the weekend as executive director of New England Treatment Access Inc. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health, last week, said it was freezing the company’s plans for a marijuana dispensary in Northampton and another in Brookline to review Fisher’s statements in the license application. Massachusetts voters legalized medical marijuana in 2012, but so far no dispensaries have opened. It frustrates medical marijuana advocates like Dick Evans of Northampton.
" The governor and the DPH should be hustling to get the dispensaries open."
The DPH in June awarded 11 provisional licenses. Just one was assigned to western Massachusetts.
