Fiber Optic Cable Break Knocks Out Vermont State Websites

Officials say a break in a fiber optic cable made the state of Vermont's internet sites unavailable to the public on Wednesday.
The break to the cable occurred around 9:30 Wednesday morning in the Essex area. John Quinn, the secretary of Vermont's Agency of Digital Services, said all of the state's computer systems were working fine, but there was no way to access them.  State internet access was restored mid-afternoon.

Quinn says there is supposed to be a redundant network in case of breaks and an after-action investigation will work to determine why that failed to continue service after the original break.
