A fifth grade teacher from Saratoga Springs is accused of having a sexual relationship with a former student.

The Saratoga County sheriff’s office says 48-year-old elementary school teacher Elizabeth Barthelmas had a sexual relationship with a former student under the age of 13 at her home in 2007 and 2008.

Charged with rape, Barthelmas is being held at Saratoga County Jail. Officials ask anyone with more information to come forward.

Earlier this week a former teacher’s aide at the School at Northeast, a special needs school in Schenectady, was accused of having sex with a 15-year-old student. 24-year-old Alexandra Culhane was arrested after an investigation by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs.

Twelve adults were recently arrested for seeking sex with a minor after a sting operation by the Warren County sheriff’s office, including a school bus driver in Mechanicville.
