Forest Service Gives Its Final Approval To Northern Pass

The U.S. Forest Service has given its final approval to allowing a controversial power transmission project to pass through parts of the White Mountain National Forest.
The Forest Service says it would allow Northern Pass to bury about 11 miles of transmission lines along existing roads through the forest.

The decision follows the Department of Energy's recommended approval of a key permit for the Eversource project, which seeks to run a 192-mile transmission line to carry hydropower from Canada to southern New England markets, providing power for about a million homes.

State regulators are expected to announce their final written decision on the project by March 31, 2018.
