Former Boston Police Commissioner Begins "Blarney Blowout" Review

Former Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis is on the UMass Amherst campus today to begin a review of last month’s off-campus disturbance that happened during a series of parties known as the “Blarney Blowout.”     Rocks and bottles were thrown at police as they tried to break up large crowds of thousands of people outside several apartment complexes. There were more than 50 arrests.  Five days after the March 8th disturbances, UMass officials announced the hiring of Davis, who is now a security consultant.    WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Davis.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
