The Franklin County Register of Probate and Family Court  John Merrigan, one of the conference organizers, said it was planned months ago,  before the spike in heroin overdoses in Massachusetts that some are now calling a crisis.

"The death that we have seen in Franklin and Hampshire Counties as a result of heroin is amazing and people are just mortified by what they are seeing in our communities."

The conference, which is free and open to the public at  Greenfield Community College Monday will include a U.S. Congressman, several state legislators, the Chief Justice and Chief Administrator of the Massachusetts Trial Court, and founders of heroin addiction treatment program.
