A Vermont neighborhood association is testing two new weed harvesters that help remove an invasive species from Lake Bomoseen.
The Lake Bomoseen Association is spending $29,500 on a 10-week pilot program to pull Eurasian milfoil from the lake.
Association member Bill Wood tells the Rutland Herald they tried to use a harvester last year to remove the weeds but it didn't work. Wood says the new harvesters are pulling 40 to 50 cubic yards of weeds per day since launching last week.
Wood says the organization may buy the harvesters after the program ends.
Josh Mulhollem, who coordinates the management of invasive species for the Agency of Natural Resources, says the state overall has improved its efforts in containing the invasive weed.
