Hampshire College Latest To Ban Sale Of Bottled Water
By Paul Tuthill
Hampshire College in Amherst has become the latest campus in the country to ban the sale of bottled water. WAMC”s Paul Tuthill reports
Halting the sale of bottled water was a student initiative according to a campus spokesperson. A student group called New Leaf obtained an $11,000 student government grant to buy hydration stations, specially designed for refillable water bottles. These are now being installed around the campus. Bottled water dispensers in staff and faculty office space will eventually be replaced by filtered tap water dispensers. According to the Ecologist, about 90 colleges and universities have now banned the sale of bottle water on campus.
