A western Massachusetts community college will inaugurate its first woman president this week.
Christina Royal will be installed as Holyoke Community College president in a ceremony on campus Friday morning.
Following a nationwide search, college trustees selected Royal a year ago to be just the school’s fourth president in its 71-year history.
Royal started in the post in January.
" This is a great community and college. Everyone has been friendly, welcoming and really excited about the future of the college and the community," Royal said in an interview in January.
There will be an inauguration gala Saturday night with proceeds used to create an emergency fund for students confronted with unforeseen financial challenges.
