Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY will soon have its seventh president. The State University of New York Board of Trustees recently announced the appointment of Dr. Roger Ramsammy to lead the school which was established in 1953.

A native of Trinidad, he was the first in his family to attend college and has an extensive background in academic and administrative leadership positions at community colleges including schools in Florida and Virginia. Ramsammy tells WAMC's Brian Shields that he was attracted to HVCC by its strong reputation.

The date of when Ramsammy will become president is still being discussed.
