Hudson Valley Counties Hold 9/11 Remembrance Ceremonies

Municipalities up and down the Hudson Valley are holding remembrance ceremonies today to honor residents who lost their lives 12 years ago. Some of these ceremonies have taken place, while others are scheduled for this evening.

Westchester County lost 111 residents to the September 11 terrorist attacks. There is a twilight ceremony beginning at 7 at the county’s 9/11 memorial – The Rising. Former New York Governor George Pataki, County Executive Rob Astorino, and county Board of Legislators Chairman Ken Jenkins will dedicate a beam from Ground Zero as part of the candelight ceremony at Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla. In Orange County, there will be a remembrance service and military tribute to honor the memory of the 44 Orange County residents who died in the terrorist attacks. The September 11 Patriot Day ceremony begins at 5 the Orange County Arboretum at Thomas Bull Memorial Park. Rockland County held a memorial service at Haverstraw Bay Park this morning.
