Increase In Impact Aid Will Help School District Near West Point

An increase in federal funding for certain school districts will help several districts in New York, including one in Orange County near West Point.

Democratic U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand say the Fiscal Year 2017 budget that increases Impact Aid from the U.S. Department of Education by $23 million over last year will help the Highland Falls – Fort Montgomery – Central School District. The federal Impact Aid program The Impact Aid program is designed to supplement schools in districts that are on a large portion of federally-owned, nontaxable land. The senators from New York say that 93 percent of the land in the Highland Falls – Fort Montgomery School District is exempt from property taxes. And to make up for lost tax revenue, the school district relies heavily on Impact Aid funding.
