Justin Trudeau Won't Move Into Traditional PM Residence

Justin Trudeau will not be moving into the traditional prime minister's residence.  He and his family will instead live in Rideau Cottage, on the grounds of the residence of Canada’s governor general.
The National Capital Commission said Monday that Trudeau will live across the street while he is briefed on renovation options for 24 Sussex.

The Globe and Mail reports that in 2008, the Commission estimated repairs would cost about $10 million Canadian and would require full access to the residence for a minimum of 12 to 15 months.

24 Sussex has long been in need of major repairs but prime ministers have been reluctant to renovate for fear of causing a backlash.

Trudeau is the eldest son of the late Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, who served from 1968 to 1984 with a brief interruption.
