A libertarian mounting a write-in campaign for the Republican nomination to run for governor of Vermont in November says he's running to create a real debate before the election.

Dan Feliciano made the comments Thursday in Waterbury, where he formally launched his write-in campaign.

Feliciano has been critical of the health care initiatives of incumbent Democrat Peter Shumlin as well as Republican candidate Scott Milne.

Milne is considered the favorite in this year's Republican primary against two other candidates who do not have the party establishment's backing. Shumlin also faces a little-known primary challenger.

State GOP chairman David Sunderland says Vermont Republicans need to know that libertarians support radical policies like amnesty for some people convicted of drug crimes.

Feliciano says he doesn't support drug amnesty or all Libertarian positions.
