WAMC's Capital Region Bureau Chief Dave Lucas spoke with Cohoes Mayor Shawn Morse early Friday after a massive fire Thursday leveled 17 buildings, leaving about 18 people homeless.
"Today we have millions of dollars in damage," Morse says. "We spent 18 months working around the clock working around the block to rebuild Remsen Street, and it's disheartening that we have to take a step back and start over again."
The state of emergency remains in place. Authorities are asking people to stay away from downtown.
"We will overcome, we will rebound, and we will be better than we were before the fire," Morse added.
